Throughout history women have been treated like objects because of the patriarchal views ingrained in society. They were not allowed to be independent from their husbands. Single mothers challenge this notion by being an independent provider for their child. In my research, I argue that despite the modern single mother having to be self-sufficient, they still are affected by patriarchal views.
